Well…I've just been down to ours – used to be a 7-11, now a Tesco's since about a year ago – for some firelighters. In common with a lot of people in our area, we have open fires.

Had they any? Had the heck as like!!! “We only get them in in summer”, I was told. Presumably for the barbecues…since in summer nobody needs open fires indoors. Utter madness! Why on earth not have them in all year round? It's not as if they have a short shelf life…

A fifteen minute there and back walk, a total waste of time on a bitterly cold, miserable day when I could have been doing so many more interesting things instead.

But now you've given me the chance to vent my spleen by answering your question, so many thanks to you and I hope you have a really nice day!

My brain's not working too well today so I'm not quite sure if you are saying you're for or against Tesco's – but if it's the latter I'm with you all the way. We use Sainsbury's – dearer but more reliable, you can make good savings if you shop carefully and they have a good loyalty scheme. We occasionally also use Marks and Spencer for total luxuries (and sometimes for decent fish if we can't get it elsewhere – not many fishmongers round here).

If we were ever really, really, really rich (as opposed to being stony broke most of the time) we'd probably use M&S exclusively, because of the quality. When not shopping at Harrods, of course – we wish… Oh, dream on…!!!

Do you think the high cost of becoming a Yoga Teacher is too far out of reach? Will you have to sacrifice your family’s life savings to become a Yoga instructor? How will you be able to justify the time off from work needed to gain your Yoga certification?

There are cost-effective, and less expensive solutions, to learn to teach Yoga by becoming a certified Yoga instructor, without the cost of an “arm and a leg.”

Recently, I was talking to an intern from an outside Yoga Teacher Training program, which had paid nearly $10,000.00 for on-site training, on an exclusive tropical island. He was upset, since he had borrowed tuition costs from his parents, and possibly sacrificed his job, in order to become a certified Hatha Yoga Teacher.

He visited my web site for a Yoga teacher correspondence course and discovered my course was a fraction of the cost he and his family paid. He asked me how this is possible. I explained that we do not need to feed, house, or supply hundreds of Yoga interns. On top of that, there are no transportation costs to be concerned with, when using a Yoga home study course. The only cost is for materials, tutoring, and Yoga teacher certification.

Further, I explained that to be trained in a face-to-face setting, by a Master Yoga Teacher, is more expensive due to the “hands on” time spent with his teacher. After all, we have an onsite Yoga Teacher program that is more expensive than our correspondence course.

Time spent learning Yoga from a Master Teacher, or a Guru, is a valuable service. Our course is designed for an experienced Yoga practitioner who doesn’t need as much hands on help or who has a local Yoga teacher for guidance.

He continued the conversation to ask me about technical support, and I explained that we handle it by Email, over the phone, and some interns stop by for our Yoga teacher workshops. We have had Yoga teacher trainees visit us from California and Great Britain to attend a workshop. By the sound of his voice, he seemed depressed, and I asked him, “What is wrong?”

He told me that he hadn’t been taught anything about the marketing involved in the Yoga business or about business in general. He felt it would take a long time to pay his parents back and didn’t know if his job would still be available to him when he gets back home.

Then, I explained that we have Yoga marketing and business tools in our standard course and as a separate course for experienced Yoga teachers. I invited him to come to a Yoga marketing workshop when he gets back to the States, and, we both, made a new friend.

We all feel a “calling” to do work that gives us satisfaction. It helps to have a passion about our work and to know that you are helping others along the way. This is one of the many benefits of teaching Yoga, but I advise you to research the cost of Yoga instructor education, and to be careful not to put yourself too far in debt. Otherwise, your passion for Yoga could turn into a financial worry – well into the future. This would make it difficult to teach the benefits of Yoga to your students, while you are stressed out over your bills.

When Kabeer and other saints said Ram they mean the omnipresent Ram, yes Lord Rama who was born in Ayodhya in Dashrath's home is the almighty and the human form of that omnipresent Ram, but nobody knows, how he was really looking like, so if somebody is worshipping an imaginary image of Ram, then how it's intelligent?

Until a certain age in life, words like dignity, quality of life, and independence seem to be more suitable for descriptions, or reasons, why independent nations had revolutionary wars, than for senior independence. However, for seniors, these words reflect the need to stay the course of independence.

In some cases, our bodies go on existing, while our physical and mental health is slipping away. We need something that will maintain our health, aside from another prescription, with side effects.

Walking offers many good benefits, but some of us have more wear and tear on the knees, hips, and back, than we would like. We gave up running years ago, and walking is fine, but has to be kept in moderation. We should still walk when, or if, it is possible, but you have to listen to your body and walk accordingly.

Chair Yoga offers a safe, low-impact workout, with cross training benefits that will change your life for the best. Flexibility, mobility, bone density, and strength can all be enhanced with the practice of Chair Yoga.

With flexibility comes “new found” mobility, and this contributes to independence. Many Chair Yoga students start a walking program, or use an exercise bike, elliptical trainer, or tread mill, for enhanced cardiovascular work – shortly after seeing the results of flexibility and mobility.

Fall prevention is also covered in most Chair Yoga classes. Most of us realize the potential consequences of falling down, with bones that are not as pliable as they used to be. We all know how devastating a broken hip can be. Therefore, balancing exercises are covered, and students are reminded to work on balancing at home.

At home, the walls, and your kitchen counter, can also be used for sturdy props when working on balancing exercises. You should also be aware that some prescriptions will affect your balance. This is one more good reason to talk to your doctor, or pharmacist, about the side effects of any prescription.

You can also research any prescription’s side effects on the Internet, by going to a search engine and entering the name of the product in your search. This will take you to the manufacturer’s site, and at the bottom, you will see the possible side effects of that particular prescription.

Getting back to flexibility, mobility, and balance – you can make the most of your life by visiting a local Senior Center or Yoga studio to inquire about Chair Yoga classes. Some classes are also a mix of disciplines, and may be labeled as stretch, wellness, or stretch and tone classes.

If possible, try a class to see if it fits your needs. You will start feeling the results in a week or two and make the most of your life, right now. No matter how much time we have left, we all want to remain independent and keep our dignity intact.

Who would win Tai Chi vs Aikido?

who would win? a tai chi chuan master or Aikido master?

Sometimes, the pause in time, between intention and action, is the best time for Yoga practice. This gives you time to rationally focus on your intention. Of course, if this is an emergency, there will be no gap in time, and your action will most likely be reaction. Therefore, our reactions are not always rational, or positive, but with regular Yoga practice, that will change.

Earlier, I mentioned that you should “eat, sleep, and drink” positive energy. However, with the practice of meditation, and/ or Yoga, you can always develop a state of tranquility (Santosha). There are many reasons for this, but one of the first among them is non-attachment to the outcome of your plans.

This does not mean you should give up, but the best laid plans are subject to change, at any moment. We cannot control nature, or the universe, so we have to “roll with the punches.” Whether the outcome is good or bad, we have to adapt to this life the best we can, and we should be creative along the road of life.

Life is a journey, but we are not entirely in control of it. When we learn to accept what we cannot control – that is also Santosha. This state of acceptance is also a form of surrender to a “higher authority; but to some people, this causes a feeling of helplessness. You should always maintain the frame of mind that -success is “just around the corner.” Coincidentally, many students have this same positive feeling of hope and aspiration about their lives after a Yoga session.

If you are not in total control, how can success be so close? Life has “ups and downs,” but innovators become achievers – when they recognize opportunities within their grasp. This is why you train your mind to react instantly to situations with sound solutions. There will be situations where you have control over the outcome, and this is the time when a trained mind has an advantage.

In order to second guess yourself about a decision, you need to have time. While you have that time for “soul searching,” practice Yoga, meditate, pray, and come up with the best rational decision possible. When you have applied logical thought to the outcome, you cannot look back at decisions with regret.

Lastly, instant decisions depend upon how we have previously trained our mind. Yoga and meditation help you train your mind at all times. When you train your mind for empowerment, you will be able to make the most rational decision in an emergency. You will also be able to help those you love most.

Im nine weeks with my second child and my clothes are getting tight already. When did you start growing out of your clothes and did you wear maternity clothes?

The Crow – (Kakasana, sometimes called Bakasana)

“Kaka” means crow (a large black bird with a loud cry) and “Baka” means crane (a tall water bird with very long legs). The body in this pose resembles that of a bird, thus the names, crane or crow.

The Crow is a moderate inverted balancing posture, which builds strength in the upper extremities (arms, forearms, elbow joints, hands, wrists, clavicle, and scapula) and gives you the confidence to begin work with the Headstand and the Handstand. The Crow requires courage (to risk falling on your nose) and hip flexibility (to bring the thighs alongside the chest).

The Crow is one of the yoga poses that actually looks a lot harder than it really is and it requires much more coordination, concentration and awareness than the muscular strength in the upper arms.

As you hold this asana the chest is immobilized so that you can only breathe abdominally. Remember to keep your attention on the breath because this asana brings the habit of holding the breath as you focus on the balancing act.

This asana reinforces the arm, shoulder and abdominal muscles, wrists and the upper torso. It stretches and lubricates the joints, tendons and ligaments of the upper body. It tones the abdominal organs and opens the groins.

The Crow pose increases both physical and mental balance, concentration and tranquility. It balances the nervous system, brings lightness to the body and prepares the mind for meditation.

Although the Crow pose gives us tremendous benefits for the mind and the body, in some health conditions this pose is not safe to be performed.

Three important reasons not to do Crow:

1) Do not practice this pose if you have a carpal tunnel syndrome

(It is compression of the median nerve at the wrist, which may result in numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle atrophy in the hand and fingers. The disease typically affects the thumb, index, and middle fingers and is often particularly troublesome at night).

2) In any stage of pregnancy do not attempt this pose.

3) If you have high blood pressure, avoid this asana.

Caution: Always check with your doctor if you have any doubts or concerns regarding the suitability of this pose for you.
